“Baby, where are you?” Leena murmured, half asleep, eyes closed as she searched around the bed for her. It took her a while before she realised what she said, and almost instantly, she stiffened. Moments later, she exited the bed and walked into the bathroom, head shaking in disbelief and hands clenched.
It happened too often lately. Touches linger a little too long. Words escaping her lips without permission. Sarah noticing when Leena didn’t reply because she was lost in those mesmerizing blue eyes.
“You alright?” She murmured to Leena, lips frowning and eyes raising in concern, making it impossible for Leena to breathe. Yet she managed to smile softly, shrugging her shoulders.
They did the dance they did every morning — Making breakfast, talking about work, and then saying a quick goodbye before leaving the house separately. It was a routine. A comfortable one.
Comfortable. I guess that was what Leena was now.
It was a terrifying to say the least. Pretending to not care about those stolen moments. Not letting her see how badly she affected Leena. Leena couldn’t afford to lose her friend. Sarah was the reason she was alive. There was no way Leena would be able to survive without her.
She needed to stop. Every little slip brought her closer to saying the truth. Truth that Sarah wasn’t ready to hear yet. Or might never be ready to hear. Leena had to accept that. She had to keep distance.
But like every other evening, When Sarah returned home that evening, Leena smiled gently and sat beside her. They ate dinner while swapping stories and laughed at silly things.
And like every other night, Sarah’s arm wrapped around her middle during the night, stealing Leena’s breath completely. Leena stayed awake for hours, afraid even a little moment would make Sarah move away. Leena didn’t want to lose her soft touch or the feeling of Sarah’s breath on her neck. Gosh, she was in too deep.
That was the thing about comfort. It was fleeting. Leena had no guarantee it would last forever. Or if Sarah would change the next morning. But with hopeful eyes, Leean waited every night for her to shift closer in her sleep. For the smile on Sarah’s face whenever Leena did something funny.
That feeling of being at home when Sarah was beside her. Leena was getting used to it. It was scary, yet everything Leena had wanted. She promised herself never to take it for granted. To not demand more. But her stubborn heart wasn’t ready to listen.
Leena was so in love. And she had no clue what to do about it anymore.
