The Rain - A short story about heartache

She always believed the weather outside depended on how she felt. If she was sad, it would rain for hours and if she was happy, it would be beautiful sunshine outside.

Some days were gloomy outside with no proper way to describe it. It felt empty like her heart that had almost no emotions. She loved those days because then for once, she could say there was someone who understood what she was going through.

It was a cold, rainy day out today. The sky was full of black clouds, hiding the beautiful sunlight that was there seconds ago. The weather changed so drastically in mere seconds that everyone was surprised. Even then, she felt the weird happiness like she always did when it rained.

"You seem to be more in love with the rain than any guy you meet." Her best friends always said jokingly. She would always smile, silently agreeing with them. She did love the rain because she thought it was her partner in crime.

For the longest time in life, she thought the rain was always there when she needed company. Those days when family fights left her breathless with too much pain or the constant blame of not being enough suffocated her, she would find the rain just outside her window to comfort her.

As the time passed and she became an adult, the friendship offered by the rain valued more to her than anyone else's friendship. She knew in her heart that the rain would never turn it's back on her like others did in hard times.

People thought she was mental for loving something like the rain. What they didn't know was that the rain gave her reasons that made her fall in love each passing day. It was her escape from the nightmares of life and her safe place to hide from the monsters in her life.

The rain allowed her to write things on her mind down without worrying about what people would say. It allowed her to be happy for a few moments in a day that was filled with chaos. It allowed her to enjoy the innocence of her childhood and believe that everything was still alright.

Most people hated the rain because it was all wet and muddy. What they failed to see was the way it brought life back to the nature around them. How it allowed the forest to grow and rise majestically. How it filled the ocean so they would not be deprived of water the rest of the year.

While she saw all the bad things in people, somehow she could never see anything wrong in the rain. It was a magic of nature that left her breathless each time it happened.

The days when the rain wasn't there felt empty to her. She felt like there was no one to listen to her silent cries at night. There was no one to silently tell her to be brave. There was no music of the rain to cover her painful screams.

Most days, she wished it rained all year long. It was a good way to hide her sadness under the umbrella and walk through the crowd. That way, she felt like she was with a friend who understood her without saying anything.

Rainy days were perfect to her. She didn't need a mug of coffee like most others. All she needed was a place to sit so she could admire the falling rain for hours.

She always felt the desperate urge to just go out and walk through the rain. She was used to getting sick a ton of times in the rainy season but that was one of the only times when she didn't mind being sick. She could go through a few sick days if that is what she needs to go in the rain.

Today was no exception. She was wondering when she will be able to take a walk in the rain. The situation around the world wasn't as good but she hoped it would get better soon. In these helpless times, she was glad to have the company of the rain.

She wasn't a fan of a lot of things in life but she was definitely a fan of the rain. She just hoped each day waking up that the rain would always be there for her. In those days when there was no one around to talk to, she wished the rain would be there to listen to all her pain..

It was definitely a weird kind of friendship. The rain was probably not even aware of this friendship but she didn't mind it. As long as the rain was there, she didn't mind anything else in the world. Under the rain was afterall her happy place.
